Los amantes del Círculo Polar

I always believed that one should be very careful when writing about something romantic so you don't go into stereotypes. This time, after I saw the movie, I just had to tell you about it..True, it may be romantic but it's worth your while.
Julio Medem, though not very notorious has quite a filmography. I believe he became known with Lucia y el sexo in 2001, but in 1998 he gave us a better one: Los amantes del Circulo Polar. Practically it sais that coincidenses are the way fate tries to help us. But there's more to it. It is a very simetrically built piece and simple, in the best way. The story is told from more perspectives and angles. The beginning is the end, but you forget it anyway, and in the end it comes as a surprise. The signs are right in front of us but we would be fools if we would really follow them, right ? And what if we're too late ?
My simpleton questions are everybodys at one point or another and we have no exact answer anyway.. This time it's not me, or you, it's Anna and Otto and you know they belong together. They know it too. The Polar Circle should be their final point where to be happy..Would I shock you if I would tell you they don't get there ?
Beginning from their school and parents, everything and everybody "helps" to bring them closer. So, as you could imagine they become unseparable but one kind of love can distroy another kind when you're not careful. And guilt has such a power...
Otto thinks that lifes have many cicles but his has only turned once and not completely...the most important thing is missing.
Anna believes that she could tell her life story as a train of coincidenses.
I only hope that this will be impressive enough to wake us up from our daily cynicism.

P.S.

Shout or, in this case comment if you're alive!

"Did you see that ?! That was Life passing you by.."

In the year 2004 Damien O'Donnell enriches us by Inside I'm Dancing. The movie is about Rory O'Shea (James McAvoy, my personal favorite) who suffers of Duchenne muscular distrophy, and Michael Connolly (Steven Robertson in an impressive role) with cerebral palsy and a nearly unintelligible speech.
You may think that my title is rather ironic but after this movie you'll find quite the opposite. The movie opens with the image of conscience in a sick body. When Rory appears, you can see "he's trouble" but he does have a good taste in music. Imagine a blonde, spiked hair youth who can only move two fingers but listens to Frontier Psychiatrist (The Avalanche), has an "Anarchy" poster on his wall and in the first night howls for everyone to hear "Shout if you're alive!" in a home for the disabled. In spite of Rory's differences to the other patients, he gets along with Michael, because he is the only one who understands him.
Michael's situation is quite obvious:
Rory: You don't get out too much, doo you?
Michael: What's out there?
Rory's state of mind could be described with:
Rory's Dad: How's your breathing?
Rory: In and out.. (He IS having lung-problems,so the question was for real..)
When they go out to collect money for the disabled, they go for a drink and Michael, also called by Rory, Mary or Martha sees a bit of the real world. Rory takes him to a club too, where everybody's dancing. So are they,..inside.
In the meantime Rory tries to get a support to live independetly, but he is refused. Like it wouldn't be enough, imagine the irony of listening at a home of disabled people to "an artist" entertaining the patients with "He's got the whole World in his hands.."
When Michael realises that the institutional living restricts his way of life, he gets the support and he asks Rory to go with him. They get a good apartment from Michaels indifferent father, who, after this philantropical move excludes himself from his sons life. After finding and convincing a girl, Shioban to take care of them, starts "criple-heaven". But every miracle lasts for three days and when Michael falls for Shioban, the dream-popping question comes out: "What do you have to offer to a woman like that?"
I read somewhere that "Without the possibility of suicide, life would be unbearable." There's a part when the guys are on a bridge and they want to commit suicide, but...they can't...like, physically can't..so: Rory: "Take a letter, Michael. To Dublin City Council. 'Dear Sir or Madam. As wheelchair users with suicidal intentions, I must protest at a lack of facilities. None of the bridges are equipped with easy parapet access, thus curtailing the rights of the disabled to throw themselves in. Yours in disgust, Rory Gerard O'Shea and Michael Connolly.' "

The Plan and Meg Ryan

Maybe i should start by telling you what I'm really doing here. Pretending I know, I can say that I want to talk about movies (that's why the name is "3.2.1. cut"). I thought a lot about which should be the first movie to tell you about...I couldn't decide. There are to many and we can arrange them in to many groups..
So, I just picked one, which I liked because it is Meg Ryan who makes a lovely fool of herself, making you laugh..
You've Got Mail is made in 1998 by Nora Ephron. We can call the movie a romantic comedy so I wouldn't recommend it for the action-lovers, still there is always a beauty in Ephron's and Ryan's movies: they create a childish but feminine character, who's naivete you've got to love. And Ryan never realises how beautiful she is. I won't tell you the story 'cause you should watch it.
By the same director and with the same actress I recommend you Sleepless in Seattle, from 1993. Basically is the same type of movie, with a different story. In both movies Tom Hanks is the man to win her heart.
In '95 and '92 Ryan plays in French Kiss and Prelude to a Kiss. They both are nice movies, perfect for a Sunday afternoon with the girls . But the movie of 1989, When Harry Met Sally must have remained in our memory as "the orgasm". We must keep in mind the year, the century (:P) it was made in. And last but not least in 2001 she plays in Kate&Leopold , a movie which tends to be only romantic but achieves more thanks to the hystoric ideea. I must say that the soundtrack is worth listening if you think of Sting's Until.
